A new collage, a new technique, and a story about loss - with a happy ending!

Hello Everyone!

This week I did something a little different.

I had an image in my head—but I wasn’t sure I could actually pull it off. The vision? A Spirit Being collage, created on a used 16x20 canvas I’d painted over from an unknown project. (Who doesn’t love a good up-cycle?)

The technique was new to me—paper cutouts, layered in a way that nods to the late artist Rex Ray. It’s definitely inspired by, but it’s not an imitation. I started with a pile of gel-printed papers and just started cutting shapes. No real plan. The first layer was chaos—shapes stuck down randomly, knowing they’d mostly disappear under what came next.

What unfolded surprised me.

Even though the theme was loss and the afterlife, it didn’t feel heavy. It felt alive. Personal. Healing. The piece honors the short life of my son, Neal, but also the many quiet losses shared by people in our community—those whispered truths that surface in the comments and messages from folks who watch my videos.

If that sounds like something you’d want to see come together, the full video is now live on YouTube, complete with background guitar by my brother, Russell:
Watch the Spirit Being collage unfold

You’ll see every step—from the awkward beginning to the “wait, this might actually work” moment. I hope it inspires you to try something new, too… even if you’re not sure it’ll work.

Thanks, as always, for being here.

xo,
Sheree & Nicole
